Obituary for Rudolph F. Wells

The family of Rudolph F. Wells would like to advise of his passing on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Schneider Regional Medical Center at the age of 81.


Rudy, as he was affectionately known was a lover of music and graduated Cum Laude from the Berklee College of Music with a degree in Professional Music and a Bachelor of Music with honors. Always driven by a desire for more knowledge, he enrolled in the University of Miami and graduated with a Masters Degree in Educational Administration.


Rudy dedicated 30+ years of service to teaching and musical education in St. Thomas and St. John. He was one of the co-founders and music directors at the St. John School of Arts. He is also best remembered in his birth place of Trinidad as a writer of test pieces for numerous music festivals and the first winning Panorama arrangement for Trinidad All Stars in 1973: Lord Kitchener’s Rainorama. Panorama is an annual music competition of steelbands from Trinidad and Tobago held around Carnival time.

Rudy is survived by his wife, Lynette Wells, his siblings: Joan Wells, Earl Wells, Dianne Wells, Janice Wells, Fidel Harris and Maria Harris; his children: Dexter Garcia, Junior Rudy Wells, Tasha Wells and step-daughter: Alana Alexander.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Lionel Yearwood and Sylvia Wells as well as siblings: Ivan Wells, Kenneth Wells and Tony Wells.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Grant Sewell and the RLS Hospital ER staff that cared for Rudy with love and dignity in his final hours.

Rudy’s numerous family and friends will miss him dearly including his Water Bay Condos family, Trinidad All Stars family, the Provost and Alexander families.
