Obituary for Rosalie A. Matthew

Mrs. Rosalie Audrey (SARAH) Matthew, 77, was born on September 21, 1939 in the beautiful island of St. Kitts, West Indies. On May 13, 2017 Mrs. Rosalie Matthew made the journey home to take her seat with the Lord. Mrs. Rosalie Matthew made St. Thomas U.S.V. I. her new home at a very young the 1960s. She worked various jobs as a homemaker while gaining her U.S. Citizenship.

Mrs. Rosalie Matthew married her husband, William Matthew, on March 31, 1966. She and her husband were the sole proprietors of Matthew's Mobile Restaurant founded in 1979 at 101 Lindberg Bay, Airport road. Here they successfully operated their business together for over 20 years. The bright colored yellow van, Matthew's Mobile, became a landmark attraction as the Cyril E. King Airport and surrounding areas were being expanded and developed during the 80s and 90s. Their restaurant provided many years of excellent service and numerous wonderful dishes of local foods with their specialty being the Beef Pate'. Her food travelled the world as tourists to the island would pack up numerous pates in brown paper bags before leaving for destinations unknown, only to return and do the same again.

Mrs. Rosalie Matthew was an active member of the Ebenezer Memorial Baptist Church and a Womens Missionary Union (WMU) member. She would spend one term as the Ebenezer WMU president during her time there. With her involvement in her church and the WMU she supported many community activities and events as she completed her work for the Lord. She touched the lives of many as the Church grew and performed outreach in the community. Here she became grounded in her faith and love for the lord and the opportunity to make an impact.

Mrs. Rosalie Matthew was a devoted Christian, Wife, Mother, Aunt, and Friend. She enjoyed playing her piano and would practice her favorite gospel songs at every opportunity. She loved her family dearly and would do her part to push everyone in her family to be close and to love the lord. She instructed them to aspire to do more with their lives and play an active role in improving their situations.

Mrs. Rosalie Matthew enjoyed travel and would sit at the airport while she waited and would admire the many different characteristics about everyone that made them unique. She traveled between St. Thomas and back and forth to Puerto Rico, where her daughter resided, and Atlanta, where her sons lived. Mrs. Rosalie Matthew would move to Atlanta in January of 2016 after an extended stay in Puerto Rico. In Atlanta, Mrs. Rosalie Matthew would finally get her chance to vote in her first Presidential Election and on Tuesday November 7, 2017 she casted her ballot for the candidate of her choosing. This was an honor she did not take lightly as she recognized the importance of this opportunity and made her vote count by exercising her rights as a U.S citizen.
