Obituary for Leon Joseph Danet

The family of Leon J. Danet announces his passing on Sunday, November 27, 2016 in Norfolk, Virginia at the age of 76. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia Mercado Danet (Nena); his three children, Bruce, Dean and Mona and Daughters in Law Dr. Theon Thorpe Danet and Kimbra Hendricks Danet. His beloved grandchildren, Bruce Matthew Jr., Brandon Leon, Aliya Symone, Andre Malik, Bryan McCoy, and Jayden David. His sister Nancy LaPlace. In addition, Sisters in Law, Gloria Turbe and Enieda Estrella and Brothers in Law Louis LaPlace and James Magner. Leon shared a very special bond with all his nieces and nephews; James Danet, Rosemarie Correa, Terry Richardson, Patricia Jeppesen, Robert Danet, Corinne Smith, Vivian Vega, Yvonne Perez, Jennifer Rosu, Kathleen Accolla, Sonia Canistraci, Theodore Danet III and a host of great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. Special Friends: Athniel (Addie) Ottley, Dr. Alfred Heath, Allan Richardson, Morgan Daniel, Franklin Sewer, Patricia Carty and Campbell Berry.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Danet Sr. and Helen Danet, as well as his brothers, Rene Danet, John Danet, Theodore (Magic) Danet and sisters, Irma Olive, Amelia Danet, Evelyn Danet and his twin sister Leonie Danet. Mr. Leon Danet was very active in the French Community to include, FTCO, Moby Dick, CBC and Frenchtown Community Center organizations. In addition, he managed the Virgin Islands National Fast Pitch Softball Team in numerous tournaments abroad. In the last six years of his life, Leon has dedicated much of his time coaching and mentoring the next generation of youth athletes, notably, The Twins and Rookies, on St. Thomas.

Leons legacy will continue to be felt in our community at large because of the many people whose lives hes touched. His ability to communicate positively and form lifelong friendships is without question Leons very special gift. HE WAS LOVED! WE CELEBRATE A LIFE WELL LIVED!

Funeral Information

The first viewing will be Friday, December 9, 2016, from the Celestial Chapel at Hurley Funeral Home. From 5-7pm.

The Funeral Mass, celebrating Leons life is scheduled for 10:00am, on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at St. Annes Chapel in Frenchtown.

Interment, Western Cemetery One.
