Obituary for Eleanor Weber

The family of Eleanor Weber-Backlund informs of her peacefull passing on June 12th at the Roy L Schneider Hospital.

Tish, as she became known, was born to Marion and Lind Weber, Sr on August 24, 1951 on St Thomas. A graduate of Sts Peter Paul School, class of '69, she then attended and graduated from the McAllister Institute of Mortuary Science, in Manhattan. She returned home and joined her Mother in the running of the then Sea Horse Cottages on Ridge Road, Estate Nazareth.
In April '76 when news of the American Airlines crash reached Tish, she flew to the Knud Hansen Hospital, announced she was a licensed (NY city and state) mortician, was tossed a lab coat and put to work that lasted through the aftermath of this tragedy. For her efforts, she received letters of commendation and job offers, however she decided not to pursue her training.
As a young girl Tish rode horses, (under the tutelage of Marilyn Monsanto) in Carnival parades and events; a stint with Andrew Williamson DVM at his Anna's Retreat compound found her caring for rescued animals; she trained attack dogs; indulged her green thumb and at one point created a lush garden in her truck bed, which she drove. Tish had a quick wit, artistic talent, flowing long hair, was barefoot whenever possible, and remained a loyal 'Thomian'.

Tish is survived by her three children: Chelsea Weintraub Higholt, twins Louann and Paul Backlund; three grandchildren: Xavier, Xander and Joshua, all residing in CA; her oldest brother Lind Weber, Jr residing in GA, sister Wendy Weber Noble of St Thomas; her Wesley cousins; her friends. She was preceded in death by her older brother Richard in Sept '14.
Per her wishes, she was cremated under the care of Hurley Funeral Home Cremation Center of St Thomas and St John. On-line condolences can be sent to Chelsea's e-mail address: or mailed to her home at: 41 Serena Court, Rancho Mirage, CA. 92270
