Obituary for Claire Elaine Reese

With deep regret, the family of Elaine P. Reese announces her passing from this world on June 15, 2016 at the age of 94. She was affectionately known as "Lainey". She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Senator Percival Hugo Reese, her mother Maude Proudfoot and her daughter Joanne Reese Brown. She is survived by her son Courtney Reese, daughters Jacqueline V. Reese and Michelle Reese Carson. She is also survived by granddaughters Marti Lewis, Maria Lopez-Johnson, Ketura Brown, Noelle Carson and Erin Carson; grandson, Daren Brown; great grandchildren Esther Lewis, Solomon Lewis, Janelle Johnson, Giovanni Johnson, Ava McNary, and Maximus Brown. She is also survived by her sister, Doris Comissiong, sister-in-law Hilda Reese Daniel. Nieces, Maxine Fuentes, Brenda Boschulte, and Kathleen Richards and Harolyn Reese; also Estrid Phaire, Diane Harthman, and Alma "Terry" Hector. Nephews, Joel Comissiong, Harold Reese , Jr., Clement Daniel ll, Michael Daniel, Andre Francois, Rene Francois, and Arthur Hartman, Jr.; Sons-in-law, John Lewis Brown, Jorge Lopez and Victor Carson; also the Watson, Daniel, Francois, and Harthman families and many other relatives and friends.
Elaine was born in St. Thomas . She graduated in the class of 1940 from the Charlotte Amalie High School. She then worked at the V.I. Cooperative for a year ; In 1941, She started work as a secretary in the Office of the Government Secretary, now called the Office of the Lieutenant Governor. Elaine subsequently became an Administrative Assistant in that Office and worked there for 40 years until her retirement in 1981. During those 40 years she worked under seven Government Secretaries and Lieutenant Governors including Morris F. DeCastro, Roy Bornn, Cyril E. King, David Maas, Othniel "Addie" Ottley, Juan Luis, and Henry Millin.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the first viewing on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at the Celestial Chapel - Hurley Funeral Home from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The second viewing will be held at the St. Thomas Reformed Church on Monday June 27, 2016 from 9-10 a.m. The service will follow at 10 a.m. Interment will be at the Danish Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the care of Hurley Funeral Home and Cremation Center of St. Thomas and St. John.
