Obituary for Bruce Gordon Marshall

The family of Bruce Gordon Marshall is saddened to announce his death on Sunday, December 23, 2018 after a three-year battle with cancer.
Bruce was born on December 14, 1953 in Newton, Massachusetts to Alec and Anne Marshall. He received his degree in elementary education from the University of Maine in 1976 and moved to St. Thomas in 1976 for a teaching position at Antilles School. He met his soon-to-be wife Beth shortly after both she and he arrived on St. Thomas. On August 19, 1978, he married Beth and they raised two sons, Christopher and James.
Bruce taught 3rd-and 4th grades at Antilles for nine years and during that time he built his first home. His talent was his ability to learn by listening and watching and to earn respect and affection of all with whom he worked. He established Marshall Construction, Inc. and over a thirty-year period built many homes on St. Thomas. He counted his employees at MCI as his extended family and loved his chosen profession. He said he was still “teaching” every day. Bruce loved the Virgin Islands and considered it home for more than 40 years.
Bruce is survived by his parents Anne and Alec, wife Beth, sons Chris and Jimmy, brother Scott and his wife Juanita of Park City, Utah, sister Nancy Kroll and husband John of Philadelphia, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A service to celebrate the life of Bruce Marshall is scheduled for Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 2:00 pm in the St. Thomas Reformed Church sanctuary on the corner of Nye Gade and Crystal Gade with a reception to follow at the St. Thomas Yacht Club from 4-7 pm. Parking for the church service will be limited and it is recommended that people park at Fort Christian.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Bruce Marshall Scholarship Fund at the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands. Checks can be written to CFVI, PO Box 380, St. Thomas, V.I. 00804; donate on line at www.cfvi.net in memory of Bruce Marshall; or call CFVI at (340) 774-6031. The priority for the scholarships will be for students interested in construction management.
Arrangements are under the care of Dan Hurley Homes for Funerals and Cremation Center of St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix
