Alvin Isidore Leerdam
December 12, 1936 - July 19, 2017
Alvin Isidore Leerdam, age 80, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at his residence in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He leaves behind his wife of sixty years, Edith Maria, four children, Linda, Barry, Brent, Louryse, one daughter-in-law, Shevonne Leerdam, one son-in-law, Timothy Winn, sixteen grand-children, ten great grand-children and a host of other relatives of the Leerdam, Thomas Penn and Davis families, too numerous to mention.
In 1956, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was trained in Texas and Florida. A significant amount of his military assignment was spent at Kindley Air Force Base in Bermuda. After his proud military service, Alvin returned home to the Virgin Islands and began service in the Virgin Islands Police Department, previously known as the Department of Public Safety. Alvin was trained at the FBI Academy and quickly rose through the ranks until becoming Captain. Captain Leerdam participated in many law enforcement initiatives over the years and led the Police Training Academy. He retired from Public Safety in 1984.
From 1986-1991, Leerdam worked with the Legislature of the Virgin Islands as Chief of Security and Sergeant-At-Arms. In 1991 he attended Victory Christian Bible College in Tulsa Oklahoma, and studied for the Ministry. Alvin and his wife Maria graduated from the Bible College and later on joined the Pastoral staff of Victory Christian Center as ordained, licensed ministers.
A memorial service was held at 2pm on Wednesday, August 2nd at Victory Tulsa (formerly known as Victory Christian Center), 7700 S. Lewis Ave, Tulsa Oklahoma, 74136.
Captain Alvin Leerdam’s body will lie in state on Friday August 11, from 5PM to 7PM at the Alexander Farrelly Justice Complex, in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 10am on August 12th at St. Thomas Assembly of God Church, #133
Contant, St. Thomas USVI, 00802. Viewing will be from 9am to 10am before the service.
Interment, Western Cemetery, #1.
